reviews of the eight or so books that I've read in the past month are forthcoming, but I do want to say one thing -
Sherrilyn Kenyon. Dude. What is up with the woman hating? Do you have long lasting, deep seated issues with your own sex? 'cuz that's the only reason I can come up with for hating on any woman with power (Artemis MUST be evil because she likes sex! OMG! Also, excuse me for the nitpick, but Artemis was the virgin goddess. Just FYI.)
I suppose I'll have to finish it so people won't tell me that I don't know what I'm talking about, but guys, this is hurting my brain and delicate sensibilities. For serious.
*edit*
I'm nineteen pages and two chapters into Devil MAy Cry, and can honestly say that this book sucks. Sin (Yes, that is the hero's name. I SEE WHAT U DID THAR, Ms. Kenyon!) is totally incomprehensible. He's heartless - oh, wait, he gave the dead woman an ancient sumerian prayer. OMG, HE'S DESECRATING THE BODIES! Oh, but he's so TIRED of this NEVER-ENDING WAR, it is a drain on his SOUL, he wants to kill Artemis, the heinous bitch who ousted him from his godhood and is too powerful for her own fragile, feminine good. Oh, and Artemis is sex crazed and, need we mention, a bitch. Seriously, I think every character who has interacted with Artemis (about five people) has thought of her as a bitch. Are there no more creative insults in the world? You know, for the virgin huntress who has inexplicably become a slut, even though she only sleeps with one person. She's a slut, okay? It doesn't MATTER if she's apparently monogamous, she enjoys the sex, okay? And heaven knows women can't enjoy the sex. That would be bad. That would be naughty. That would be WRONG. (unless you're the heroine, of course, and sleeping with the hero. Otherwise you're shit out of luck if you have a vagina.)
Which brings us to Katra, the heroine, whose name, every time I read it, makes me snicker a bit, because what are the odds that she'd have the same name as a Vulcan soul? Anywho, she is aparently a badass former servant of Artemis (That bitch!) whose services were traded away to an Atlantean god because she screwed up and failed to keep one of Artemis' charges from falling in love with another dark hunter (Oh hai thar, nod to previous stand alone novel), a group of ancient male warriors that Sin happens to also belong to. Coincidence, or psychic phenomenon? Please note that there are apparently no female dark hunters, because those with vaginas are obviously far too fragile and feminine to battle the forces of evil, and should take their proper place at home, cooking barefoot in the kitchen with two and a half kidies running around their feet and inside the white picket fence that their husbands erected for them because Dark Hunters are Just That Handy. Oh, and because Artemis is a bitch. I'm not really sure how that works into the equation, but since it's stated on practically every page of the book, I felt I should add it in there.

(also because i tend to agree with you)
and totally off topic, i met kenyon at dragoncon because my friends were big fans >.< and got a free book which is on the bottom of the stack of books ive been meaning to read.
Except that so far she's my favorite character.
Go figure.
And I loathe Sin, because he is an ass. And yes, Artemis took his godhood. Yes, his daughter died, and that sucks (majorly; I'm not trying to downplay that). But his is just such a whiny, self-righteous, supposedly perfect twit that I want to bash his head in.
He kind of reminds me of Edward, actually.
